Sunday 30th August
Dance Workshop
(Folk) Dance Kaleidoscope Sunday 30th August is a Folk Redlands 5th Sunday special.
On this special event day we will feature Dance Kaleidoscope. This will be like a Hands-on traditional dance workshop (or should that be feet on)
and will feature styles of the English country people (including a clog step dance and Morris jig) and the gentry dances from 1650 till early 1800's.
Most people associate the dances with Jane Austen as they have seen the dances in the movies of her books.
These dances actually were adopted after Cromwell took power in England and the aristocratic medieval dances were thrown out. The new ruling class adopted the country dances of the people and gradually changed them so the style became much more complex.
The group will demonstrate some complex dances and then demo as necessary to teach the simpler dances for all to join in.
Sheree Greenhill will give a running commentary on matters of costume and etiquette relating to the dances if people show an interest.
Assuming the weather is fine, the event will be held on the outdoors square at IndigiScapes, but just in case the weather is not fine,
it's probably best to bring a pair of soft shoes as well, as dancing in the Hall is a problem due to the wooden floor getting marked.
The start will be 2pm and will run for approximately 2 hours. The usual refreshments will be available in the IndigiScapes Cafe.
There is no need to book for this, just turn up on the day. Admission is FREE
