"Hot August Folk Concert" "Sunas" + "Swoon" + Ewan MacKenzie

SUNAS
They play traditional acoustic Celtic (Irish, Scottish, British, European, Breton etc) music. Sunas have an ever-increasing number of their own songs
and tunes, and also contemporary material changed to fit their own style. Instruments played by the band include guitars, fiddle, bouzouki, mandolin,
flutes, whistles and bodhran, all four band members are also vocalists. Band members are Sarah Calderwood, Bridget Masters, Paul Brandon and
Mannie McAllister.
SWOON Duo
A Contemporary Rockin' Folk duo from North Qld who write and perform a range of material from danceable high
energy Rockin' Folk, to humorous ditties and their brand of blues based acoustic rock. Josh Notting plays an
acoustic guitar with some effects and loops, sings backup vocals and plays the stomp box and foot tambourine.
Angela Smith (lead vocals and percussion) lays over her strong beautiful voice and master shaker playing. They have been wowing audiences up and
down the east coast with their captivating live show, original songwriting and technical prowess. They are currently on a songwriting binge they will
have heaps of new songs for their anticipated 3rd performance at Folk Redlands.
EWAN MACKENZIE with guest Guitarist OLIVER STEFFEN
Ewan MacKenzie has been playing guitar for many years in all styles, and since devoting himself to the genre
sometime ago, has come to be regarded as one of Australia's finest Gypsy Jazz guitarists. His playing is fluid
and passionate and he writes melodic, evocative material in the style. His soloing is warm and articulate while
still retaining that spontaneity and creativity that is inherent in jazz improvisation. For his visit to the Folk
Redlands, Ewan intends to present a selection of songs from his 40 years as a guitarist/composer/singer.
He'll also play some instrumental music in the style of the great gypsy guitarist Django Reinhardt with the help
of Oliver Steffen.

Karl Farren
Irish born , Karl now resides in Northern new South Wales . Raised in Dublin on a cultural stew on Traditional Irish music
and 60' and 70's pop. His fine guitar playing and distinctive vocals have been heard from Ireland and England to Australia, both via live performances
and the sales of his CD . "Repentance Creek"
